La Maison Pacifique

Hello

Latest news from La Maison Pacifique September 2013 Update

Our La Maison Pacifique September 2013 Update includes our recent social media articles (and some other great information added in) including:

You can ink with us via Twitter, facebook, Google+, Linked in and Youtube for our news/stories as they happen (although our newsletter does have added extras too).  Read on and enjoy!

1. What have you done?

Yes, four little words that can strike fear into the heart of any child “What have you done?”!  However, in our case, it is much more positive than that!  At La Maison Pacifique it is our aim to provide our guests with the most luxurious holiday experience, supported by superior accommodation in a beautiful setting and which all five senses can respond to.  So, how do we do this?  With care and attention to detail….

2. Upcoming Events

We are starting to get into the swing of things with a range of fantastic Spring events in October.  This is in addition to our normal Attractions and Markets, so here goes!

You can also find more information at Tweedscene.com.au

3. 5 Star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday Home?

We are often asked the question – 5-star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday home?  Some say 5-star resort all the way!  Others say, hang on, there is nothing better than having your own private resort with everything (and more!) offered at the 5 star resorts – often at a much better price by renting your own private, luxury beachfront holiday home.

So, we’ve done the comparison.  We’re not keen on disappointing our neighbours by naming their specific business (as we all have our benefits), but the information in our blog is based on information we could find when comparing our La Maison Pacifique luxury beachfront holiday rental with two beach resorts close by..  We are delighted with our findings.

4. How to be a friendly Beach-goer

We are all about positivity and we’ve found some great tips on how to be a friendly beach-goer.  Of course, this doesn’t mean spoiling any of your own fun, it is just about being considerate when you hit the sand!

We were inspired by the article “Beach Etiquette: What not to do at the Beach” By Dara Continenza.  To ensure maximum enjoyment for you and your fellow beach bums, be a good citizen with these top things you should and shouldn’t do while soaking up the sun in your favourite beachfront holiday location 0r just your own local beach.

5. Great tips for avoiding holiday queues

When traveling either in a group or as a family we have some great tips for avoiding holiday queues!  This is not just about the kids – there are many corporate travelers who are so used to traveling often, (aka George Clooney “Up in the Air”) who have the inside knowledge on reducing your waiting times in holiday queues.

Inspired by the article “How to Cut Lines When You Travel”, and “How to travel like George Clooney in “Up in the Air”” here are my top tips for getting as quickly as you can to the fun part of your holidays!

Whether you are standing in a long customs queue or attempting to visit the New York Galleries on a summer Saturday, we all spend too much time in line. But there’s a better way to see the world: Live life in the fast lane!

8. Places to eat in Pottsville

A quick morning trip to Pottsville on the weekend has inspired me to talk about places to eat in Pottsville!  We recommend the White Jade (was back there for lunch this week), although we are pretty tempted by the Pottsville Bakehouse with their amazing selection of pastries.

Just 10 minutes down the road from us at La Maison Pacifique, it is certainly worth the trip to try out the local eateries and shops.

9. Casuarina Australia NSW Information

Casuarina is a town of approximately 1,700 people in far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia in the Tweed Shire.

It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the East and Cudgen Creek to the West.  Casuarina is located 659kms north-east of Sydney, 21kms south of the Queensland border and 121 kms south of Brisbane.

This blog provides you with some great information about Casuarina, local businesses and things to do.

10. Barefoot Bowls at the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club

Family holidays are a great time to try new and different activities and we were recently guests of the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club for their Barefoot Bowls.  After enjoying a great (fresh, country-style –  and filling!) meal at the Pacific Blue Bistro (choose from either ocean or green views!) we took off our shoes and headed off to the greens.

With some expert coaching from Tails (say hi from us when you see him!) our two groups laid down the kitty.  Group one was the “teenagers”; group two the “adults”.

Well, we started off pretty relaxed, but it soon got competitive!  Let’s just say that the eldest of each group “won” the night, but there were plenty of good natured ribbing, encouragement and fun along the way.  We certainly won’t make the Commonwealth Games Teams, but there were a smattering of great shots!

Think about barefoot bowls with your family during your holidays – if you have half as much fun as we did it will be a hoot!

Happy holidays – dream about what is possible; believe you can do it; make the most of your annual leave; plan, book and enjoy your holiday; then dream about where you will go next!  It is your turn!

11.  The Workshop

All us ladies are (I think anyway!) always up for a bit of pampering.  Our recommendation – save some “me” time on your holiday for a special treat at The Workshop Cabarita Beach.  La Maison Pacifique’s owner, Sally, had an amazing Hydrating Facial Therapy with 100% Collagen last night and came out sparkling!

With everything from Hair, facials, hands and feet (Sally also had a great deluxe manicure), massage & body therapy, waxing & tinting, IPL, hair reduction & Photo rejuvenation, remedial massage, naturotherapy, acupuncture and yoga (beginners too!) – your every wish is their commend!

The Workshop is a vibrant, fun and luxurious health and beauty destination located in beautiful Cabarita Beach. Providing our clients with the very best in beauty, hair and make-up services, our aim is to please, to delight and to make each and every client look, feel and be fabulous. It’s the perfect one-stop-shop before your big event.”

12. Last Minute – Caba Creative Carnivale is on tomorrow!

The inaugural Caba Creative Carnivale is on tomorrow showcasing a range of local produce, businesses, artists, performers, demonstrations, workshops and activities.  Should be a fantastic day – might see you there from 1-7pm!

Casuarina NSW Australia Information

Casuarina NSW Australia Information

Casuarina NSW Australia Information
Casuarina NSW Australia Information

Casuarina is a town of approximately 1,700 people in far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia in the Tweed Shire.

It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the East and Cudgen Creek to the West.  Casuarina is located 659kms north-east of Sydney, 21kms south of the Queensland border and 121 kms south of Brisbane.

At the 2011 ABS Census, Casuarina had a population of 1,661 people, although this is expected to grow substantially with the development of the Miramar Estate bordering Casuarina Way and The Village Estate to its immediate south.

Casuarina boasts a wonderful climate with its beachfront location and is well located with a 15 minute drive to a busy domestic and international airport (Gold Coast Airport), is surrounded by world-heritage listed national parks and is one of the most affordable places to live on the East Coast of Australia.

Nestled between bustling Kingscliff and the relaxed pace of Cabarita Beach, Casuarina also boasts its own services as the home of the Spice Den Restaurant (in the Santai Resort), and at nearby Casuarina Domain you will find the Osteria Restaurant, Casuarina Beach Recreation Club (with a range of great facilities including gym, pool and tennis courts) and the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.

Local wedding planner, Casuarina Weddings caters for all bridal couples organising their own destination wedding and the Spice Den and Osteria are their venues of choice.

Work has recently begun on the new Town Centre at Casuarina (next door to the Santai Resort) which will boast a new generation Coles supermarket, specialty shops, a cafe, child care centre and office space. Designed to be the local neighbourhood hub, this boutique sized centre will provide daily needs, ready to cater for the increased population with all the seaside development blocks at The Village and Miramar Estates which are selling fast.  It is expected that this new Town Centre will be open for business in mid-late 2014.

In the meantime, residents and visitors have a choice of two Woolworths supermarkets – one at Kingscliff and the recently opened Cabarita Beach store.  The new shopping complex at Woolworths Cabarita is developing with more retailers due to open their doors soon.  However, many long-standing local shops are still great value with favourites including the Caba Bakehouse, Blue Rose Cafe (great breakfasts), and Cabarita Beach Cycles.  The Stunned Mullet is great for some Fish and Chips, Marty’s at Caba perfect for lunch or dinner (and with live music 4 nights a week). You can always get a great meal at the Cabarita Beach SLSC.

For a bit of pampering you can’t miss The Workshop on the main road into Cabarita Beach (on the left as you head south from Casuarina) and we are eagerly awaiting the renovation of The Hideaway – which will be Cabarita Beach’s own 5 star boutique luxury resort and beachfront wedding venue.

For information on Casuarina’s what’s on and markets and location and attractions, please visit our website pages.

There is a great beachfront boardwalk which stretches from Cabarita Beach in the south and north all the way through to Kingscliff township.  It is a great option for bike riders and you pass by Casuarina and Salt, Kingscliff as you travel north.

Watersports are in abundance in the local area with the local Watersports Guru and in2surf offering a range of activities and you can also book surfing lessons through the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.

Casuarina is a perfect location holiday and/or wedding location as it allows the best of both worlds.  Nestled between the bright lights of the Gold Coast in Queensland and the chilled out Byron Bay in NSW, it has easy access to both regions, whilst retaining its own beachfront charm.  There are a number of accommodation options from the Cotton Beach Apartments, Santai Resort through to townhomes in the Casuarina Domain and luxury beachfront holiday rentals scattered throughout the area.

Fun Wedding Ideas

Fun Wedding Ideas

I have been searching high and low looking for some fun wedding ideas which will enable our brides and grooms to personalise their wedding day.  Weddings today have less of a traditional focus, and this is a great opportunity to make your day your own. It is all about ensuring that you, your family and your guests celebrate this special time – and have fun doing it!

So here are 12 fun, personal touches and ideas which you could add to your wedding day to make it extra special for you, your family and your guests….

Let’s get together

How fun would it be to have the whole bridal party getting ready together in a special location?  It doesn’t have to be expensive either as many luxury holiday homes not only offer a private resort experience, but can accommodate groups – often at a much reduced rate to staying at a 5-star resort.

Fun Photos

Take advantage of your local surrounds and match your photo location with your wedding theme.  Planning a beach wedding?  Choose a wedding venue (or wedding accommodation) which offers a range of choice in relation to your photos and really think about the setting.  Again, a holiday home could be the perfect choice not only for your accommodation but for some great fun and/or designer photos.

Incorporate the old and the new

Saw this idea and loved it – how about putting old photos of the bride and groom at the entrance to the bathrooms.  People will smile!

I spy

Looking to really get your guests involved in a fun activity?  Send them an “I spy” list for photos ie. Photo of Mother of the Bride with tears in her eyes; a bridesmaid dancing the macarena; or maybe a group photo of all your table.  Give everyone a dropbox link to put all their photos and you will find some great memories of your day.

Game plan for kids

There are still some great family weddings where children are invited, so make it fun by thinking up some great activities for them to do.  Think about whether you hire a “nanny” for the littlies to keep them amused and add in some fun games and activities which they can all enjoy.  If the kids are having fun, the parents will relax and have fun too!

Create rooms

Linking in with the game plan above, think about having “rooms” or other areas for guests to congregate.  You could have a kids corner, a lounge area (rather than sitting all night on the dining chairs) or even a fun photos area with props (feather boas, empty picture frames, fun hats and glasses).  Everyone has camera phones these days so you may not even need a booth.  A backdrop could be fun through.  Not everyone may want to dance so to have a chill-out zone could be the perfect answer for people to catch up.

Fun Bridal Dance

I love these!  Will it be the bride and groom?  What about the bride and her father or the groom and his men?  It doesn’t have to be all serious and this could be a great way to ignite the dance floor at the start of the night.

Memory Lane Walk

Is there a hallway at your venue?  Maybe at the entrance?  Create a memory lane walk of the bridal couple which can be viewed by guests at any time of the night.  It will be a great conversation starter and a great way to make your guests feel special (particularly if you include some fun photos with the bride/groom and their families/guests).

Short Courses

This may need some budget consideration but think of say 5 small courses rather than three larger ones?  This could provide more choice for you and your guests.

Late night snack

OK, so the venue has cleared away all the dinner, the dancing is on, but you had been distracted and are feeling a little peckish…  Think about a “take away” pack…  I even saw the idea where a wedding had ordered a take-away van (or maybe ice-cream van).  Or it could be as simple as a little hamper with some late night goodies.  Great for that trip home (or if you are staying in accommodation for a snack before bed).

How do you take your coffee?

Sadly, the coffee at wedding receptions can be well, sad….  Think about whether you organise with your venue for a coffee bar where guests can order their coffee to their liking.  Goes for tea too – and for the littlies think about hot chocolates…  Great way to finish the night.  Maybe use a voucher if you have to go outside the actual venue – or to another restaurant/bar within the venue?

Thankyou to guests

I am a great fan of something for guests as a thank you.  We love the idea of a personalised candle and we can recommend Jaabay Candles to you.  Choose the scent which best evokes your wedding atmosphere and provide all your guests with a little momento of the day.  Every time they light it they will think of the fun they had at your wedding.

There are so many other great and fun ideas that you can do, but I will keep it to an even dozen this time.  We do hope you like these ideas and that you have a great fun time organising the most special day of your life.

Happy holidays – dream about what is possible; believe you can do it; make the most of your annual leave; plan, book and enjoy your holiday; then dream about where you will go next!  It is your turn!

Places to eat in Pottsville

Places to eat in Pottsville

Places to eat in Pottsville
Places to eat in Pottsville

A quick morning trip to Pottsville on the weekend has inspired me to talk about places to eat in Pottsville!

Just 10 minutes down the road from us at La Maison Pacifique, it is certainly worth the trip to try out the local eateries and shops.

Now, I have always been a fan of the fantastic Pottsville Bakehouse.  Established in 2000, Pottsville Bakehouse offers a large selection of pastries to tempt your taste buds. Their variety of baked goods are made with the freshest ingredients and are baked fresh daily, right before your eyes. They taste delicious and look equally as enticing.  It really is hard to walk past without dropping in – if not just to look, to buy.  Having said that – I challenge you to walk past without buying!

We’d been recommended to try the White Jade Cafe Restaurant in the heart of Pottsville.  Sadly, we missed their monthly market the day before (first Saturday of each month), but there was a lovely selection of vintage clothing and homewares in their small store at the front of the restaurant/cafe.

As you can see from the photo, breakfast is a feast!  The home-made tomato relish was a delight and the food overall was beautiful, fresh and delivered with a smile!  In fact we found the staff to be just lovely.

I particularly liked the Cre8ive coffee – it was just the right smooth blend without any bitter aftertaste.

So yes, I would recommend the White Jade Cafe!  Oh – and you can even get takeaway pizzas from Wed – Sat nights and don’t forget their open mike nights on Thursday nights and live music Saturday nights.

Across the road is the local IGA and they certainly have a great selection of just about anything you could want food-wise with fresh produce (much of it locally produced/sourced), meat, deli and now a great new new cafe.  Next door is the local butcher and they also have a great selection of meats available – all at reasonable prices.

I did pop over to the IGA from the White Jade to grab the Sunday papers and we spent time relaxing with the papers on the cool verandah. That is a must do!

Pottsville really is a lovely little town and being located on the coast road from Kingscliff to Byron Bay is a perfect stop to drop in for a bite to eat.

Happy holidays – dream about what is possible; believe you can do it; make the most of your annual leave; plan, book and enjoy your holiday; then dream about where you will go next!  It is your turn!

How to be a friendly beach-goer

How to be a friendly beach-goer

How to be a friendly beach-goer
How to be a friendly beach-goer

We are all about positivity and we’ve found some great tips on how to be a friendly beach-goer.  Of course, this doesn’t mean spoiling any of your own fun, it is just about being considerate when you hit the sand!

We were inspired by the article “Beach Etiquette: What not to do at the Beach” By Dara Continenza.  To ensure maximum enjoyment for you and your fellow beach bums, be a good citizen with these top things you should and shouldn’t do while soaking up the sun in your favourite beachfront holiday location 0r just your own local beach.

Don’t Play Among the Crowds

Tossing a Frisbee or playing volleyball is great exercise when you’re sunning on the beach, but it can be loud and intrusive for those who prefer to stay stationary. Keep your games away from high-density areas where others are lounging so you don’t trample blankets, kick up sand, or accidentally hit a beachgoer in the noggin.

Personal Space

You have found the most beautiful pristine beach.  There is no-one else as far as you can see….  But wait – there is someone just 10 metres away.  Where should I set up?  A good 100 metres from them!  Give everyone some personal space and enjoy the tranquility of your surrounds – and pretend you are the only one there!

Don’t Smoke

The world may be your oyster, but the beach is not your ashtray. Not only can warm summer breezes blow secondhand smoke into the faces—and lungs—of your fellow beachgoers, but cigarette butts are actually harmful to the environment.  These reasons have inspired many beaches to adopt smoking bans, and those that haven’t, should. So do your part and puff away in the parking lot, properly disposing of your butts and trash after you do.

Take your trash when you leave

Careless trash disposal is exceptionally harmful to marine life, dangerous to humans and it’s unsightly to boot. Not all beaches come equipped with trash cans, so pack a plastic bag in your tote to dispose of food wrappers, old magazines, spent sunscreen bottles, and so on. Don’t forget to tear apart plastic ring drink holders and ditch your Styrofoam. Sea turtles and birds often mistake these for food and can die trying to digest the material.

Don’t run in the sand

You know how lifeguards are constantly yelling “Walk! Don’t run!” at your community pool? We think that rule should be standard at the beach, too. While slippery tiles aren’t a risk here, kicking up sand on everyone’s beach blankets is—and it’s hardly a good way to make new friends. Take off your shoes (even flip-flops – thongs to Aussies) and calmly walk to your destination. If you want to go for a leisurely jog, stick to the wet, hard-packed sand at the water line.

Shake your towel away from others

Whether it’s covered in sand or seawater, shake out your towel or blanket downwind from others. The same goes for clothing and shoes, those notorious receptacles for sand particles. Empty them out away from the towel next to you, lest you fling half the contents of the beach onto someone’s favourite magazine.

Be Respectful

As always when traveling, be respectful and observe local customs, including manners of dress and public behavior. Itty-bitty bikinis and lots of seaside PDA may be A-OK at home, but in some countries, it’s frowned upon. On the other hand, in some areas of Europe and Australia, sunbathing in one’s birthday suit isn’t uncommon. Keep your camera in your bag and don’t gawk–doing so is a big nude-beach no-no. (We recommend doing your research before you hit the sand.)

Don’t Feed the Seagulls

Sick of dining near a slew of seagulls, or seeing beachgoers feed them? Not only is this annoying, but it’s actually unhealthy—for the gull. Seagulls need to forage and stick to a natural diet; handouts of bread, fast food, and so forth can make them sick and lead to overcrowding in places that humans frequent, like beaches. Don’t reinforce bad seagull behavior by feeding them; instead, carefully wrap your food and dispose of your trash. And don’t fall for it when those gulls come begging: There are plenty of fish in the sea for them to snack on.

Don’t Let Your Dog Roam Unattended

The beach offers plenty of room for your dog to run. But keep an eye on Fido: While many breeds are good swimmers, dogs can get caught in nasty riptides just as easily as humans can. Bring a leash for your pup and make sure that, in case he does make his great escape, his tags clearly display your name and contact information. (And make sure to bring water; Animal Planet offers some helpful safety tips for bringing your dog a la plage.)

Headphones please

We’re sure you pick some really great beach tunes, but unfortunately, you are not the beach’s DJ. Put your boombox away, Bruce Springsteen, and pack a portable MP3 player/ipod … with headphones, please. That way, everyone can enjoy their own playlists, trashy beach reads, or just the gentle sound of crashing waves.

Heed the Warnings

Those signs warning of rips, strong currents, and jellyfish are there for a reason: to keep you and your fellow beach-goers safe. Heed any posted signage and monitor the color-coded flags throughout the day and ensure that you swim between the flags. Remember that conditions may look ideal, but time and time again, people foolishly disregard caution and later require rescuing.

At the end of the day, we all hope that we can have a fantastic day at the beach with our friends and family and we are hoping that these tips on how to be a friendly beach-goer inspire you to enjoy your next day at the beautiful beaches you find around the coast in Australia (and our own piece of Casuarina, Cabarita Beach and Kingscliff Paradise).

Happy holidays – dream about what is possible; believe you can do it; make the most of your annual leave; plan, book and enjoy your holiday; then dream about where you will go next!  It is your turn!

5 Star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday Home?

5 Star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday Home?

5 Star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday Home?
5 Star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday Home?

We are often asked the question – 5-star Resort or Luxury Beachfront Holiday home?  Some say 5-star resort all the way!  Others say, hang on, there is nothing better than having your own private resort with everything (and more!) offered at the 5 star resorts – often at a much better price by renting your own private, luxury beachfront holiday home.

So, we’ve done the comparison.  We’re not keen on disappointing our neighbours by naming their specific business (as we all have our benefits), but the information below is based on information we could find when comparing our La Maison Pacifique luxury beachfront holiday rental with two beach resorts close by..  We are delighted with our findings.

The Costs

Always a biggy – how do we compare on costs?…  The following table shows per person per night rates based on current rates for 6-9 September (3 night weekend) or a weekly stay 6-13 September 2013.

The Options

Must admit that we were a little surprised by this!  We feel La Maison Pacifique is better value across the board, and that is just on costs!
