Top Picnic spots near Kingscliff NSW

At La Maison Pacifique, we love relying on the best advice from locals – so Jennifer from Teaspoon High Tea Events has come up with our Top Picnic Spots near Kingscliff NSW.

So, over to Jennifer….

There are some wonderful picnic spots on the Tweed Coast. One of my favourites is Fingal Lighthouse. It’s just a short walk from the car park to the headland with majestic views spanning from the south from Byron Bay (which you can see on a clear day) to the north, Dreamtime Beach. The Lighthouse was built in 1872 and is only 7 metres high!

Another little picnic spot that the locals won’t want to tell you about is the Riverfront at Tumbulgum. How do you pronounce that name you ask?? Tum-BUL-gim!!. It’s the most delightful little town including their galleries filled with woodwork, paintings, arts and crafts by local artisans. Spread out a picnic blanket on the river’s edge and take in the views of rolling green hills and relax to the sound of peaceful lapping water.

May be HE wants to go fishing/canoeing and YOU want a picnic so keep both parties happy at Cudgera Creek on Hastings Point or if you have a little bit of energy, try a picnic on Cudgen Headland, take in the  incredible and therapeutic ocean views.  Oh – and from June to November each year, this is also the perfect spot for a touch of whale watching – the annual migration is in full swing and it is breathtaking to see these beautiful animals as they frolic in the surf (and waters) off our coast.

Maybe your style of a picnic is putting along in a boat enjoying the breathtaking scenery while floating along the Tweed River. Cruise through mangroves and subtropical rainforest with views of Mt Warning.

Whatever the occasion, if you would like a gourmet picnic basket without the fuss of preparation, Teaspoon High Tea Events can prepare a personalised basket full of scrumptious treats. Choose from their selection of fine  Artisan breads, continental cheeses, meats and chutney’s.  Hamper comes complete with their irresistible signature desserts, all part of the picnic experience.  A picnic blanket and a flask for a hot cup of tea is supplied. So email or call Jennifer from Teaspoon for your personalised hamper: 0429-020-049.

Choosing a marriage celebrant – questions to ask

Choosing a marriage celebrant – questions to ask

Choosing your Marriage CElebrant - Our Top Tips

Choosing your Marriage Celebrant – Questions to ask

As everyone says, your wedding day can be the most important day of your life and we’ve put together some information on choosing a marriage celebrant – questions to ask!

But firstly, we asked expert wedding planner Sandy Malone (Weddings in Vieques) what her top tip was and she replied “Tell your wedding planner what you want/need and follow her recommendations!”.  That is probably the best tip ever, but is reliant on you using a wedding planner (and tips on choosing them could be a whole other blog!).  Your wedding planner would know the best local celebrants – after all their business relies on getting the best people for the clients..

However, if you don’t have a wedding planner and you are doing it all yourself, personalising your wedding ceremony can be one of the most important ways to ensure that your wedding day is special for you and your partner.  Key to this is choosing a marriage celebrant.  But what do you look for?  As with most things, there are the great, the good and the not so good, so think about what you truly want your day to be like before you plunge headlong into booking your celebramt.

Oh, and we’ve asked the experts from the Celebrants and Celebrations Network Directory– but added in our own information.

So, here are our top questions to ask…

  • Availability: Is the celebrant available on the date and time you have in mind?  No brainer really – and are you prepared to change your date to get the celebrant you want?
  • Association membership: Does the celebrant belong to a celebrant association or network?  Very important.  Shows commitment to their industry and ensures that the legalities are all in place.
  • Reputation: Does the celebrant have a good reputation?  Testimonials are one thing, but speak to others.  Have you seen your celebrant officiate at another wedding?  Do you like their style?
  • Training: Apart from the standard training, how does your celebrant keep up to date – and are they considered leaders in their industry?  You may not want the “celebrity” celebrant, but it is good to know if they are committed to their industry and abreast of any changes and/or new trends.
  • Experience: How much experience does the celebrant have in conducting ceremonies? You could choose a new celebrant as you are keen for their “new” enthusiasm, but also think about the experienced (but unjaded) celebrant.  Can they adjust the ceremony to fit your requirements or are they a one-size-fits all kind of celebrant?  What will suit your wedding best?
  • Personality: Does the celebrant have the sort of personality that you find attractive? ie.  Are you keen to spice up the ceremony with “Elvis” or are you seeking a more formal ceremony?  It is all about what you and your partner are looking for when saying your vows.
  • Attitude: Does the celebrant listen to your ideas and concerns?  Or are they so set in their ways that it is “my way or the highway”!  Look for cues when discussing your day with them.   Is the celebrant keen to ensure they understand what you expect from them and that you understand what is required of you?  Don’t be afraid to discuss what you are really looking for.  A good celebrant will listen and come back with ideas and adapt the ceremony to your liking. The best celebrants will n”get” you and see it as “not just another wedding”.
  • Equipment: Does the celebrant have or have access to appropriate equipment such as a PA system, computer and internet facilities, appropriate clothing, a reliable car, etc?  Boring questions I know, but it could help if you have all the information you need.  Are any of these extras?  Word of mouth or having the same celebrant as a friend did (where your loved their ceremony) could be the best recommendation.
  • Location: Is the celebrant within reasonable travelling distance to the venue?  Very important!  Saves lots of stress in case of unexpected circumstances, although if you are having a destination wedding, do you bring your celebrant with you?
  • Fees: Is the celebrant charging a fee commensurate with the amount of work they will be doing?  Shop around and see what others are charging.  It is always good to compare, but be mindful of “extras” as opposed to “inclusions”.   Make sure you are comparing apples with apples!

So who would we recommend for weddings in Casuarina?

Well, as you know we love using locals and we’ve just come across one of the most experienced wedding celebrants in our area.

Margaret Wolgers from Amoret Ceremonies is not only a local but specialises in ensuring the ceremony fits the couple.  Providing advice on everything from the legalities to Wedding Vows, Margaret is not only experienced, but has been part of many special celebrations for couples.

Margaret fits another criteria too – she is keen to share her experience and knowledge through her blogs, providing information and advice on everything from modern ideas on how to include loved ones in your ceremony to weddings vows to wedding tips and lots in between!

…and of course, if you do decide to come to our beautiful Northern Rivers region for your special day, don’t forget that we at La Maison Pacifique can provide you with the most beautiful wedding accommodation on the coast!  On the beachfront and with a perfect bridal suite/wing you can have your own private luxury beachfront resort experience (children optional!) – and our rates and facilities compare very well with local 5-star resorts!

Teaspoon High Tea Events have arrived in Casuarina!

Teaspoon High Tea Events has arrived in Casuarina!

Teaspoon High Tea Events has arrived in Casuarina!

As you know, we love promoting local businesses and are pleased to announce that Teaspoon High Tea Events has arrived in Casuarina!

A mobile service, Jennifer is happy to visit you at your home, holiday home or arrange another venue where you can enjoy her delectable delights – including those pictured left: Limoncello Lemon Meringue, Rum & Chocolate Minis, Raspberry and White Choc Friands and Tiramisu Bites.  But that is not all Jennifer offers – you can find her full menu at her Teaspoon High Tea Events Facebook Page!

Come to think of it – a high tea would be a perfect event to enjoy as part of a Girls Weekend Getaway!  Even better, we have a program sorted of local things to see and do for such a weekend – here is our suggestion…. (this is our indulgence weekend option! :-))

Arrive Friday night: Accommodation for the weekend at Casuarina’s best Beachfront luxury resort-style holiday home – La Maison Pacifique (that would be us of course!)

Friday Night Cocktails, then dinner: A must do at the Spice Den, Casuarina, followed by dinner in their amazing Thai restaurant.  My mouth is watering just thinking about it…

Saturday Morning Breakfast: Stroll along the beach to Cabarita then a fabulous breakfast at Cafe Mod Barista at Cabarita Beach.  Fresh local ingredients, fantastic coffee and the Caba Bakehouse right next door. mmmm….

Saturday Morning Pampering: At our favourite The Workshop at Cabarita Beach (just across the road and down a bit from Cafe Mod Barista) – walking distance from La Maison Pacifique.  Indulge in a yoga session, massage, beauty treatments, hairdressing and a range of other fantastic options.  You will come out feeling fabulous and looking great too!

Saturday Afternoon High Tea: Jennifer from Teaspoon High Tea Events to visit all you girls and put on a fabulous spread of sweet and savouries (perfect as you won’t need lunch as your breakfast will be filling, but best have something delectable before dinner!).  At “home” at La Maison Pacifique.

Saturday Night Cocktails, then Dinner: You really can’t go past Izakaya at Fins – not only a great range of cocktails, but a great Japanese style eating experience that is light and refreshing and perfect after your High Tea experience.  If you are looking for a more substantial meal, Fins is perfect too.  The new menu arrives on 10 June, so get in beforehand to enjoy your favourites, or wait for the new menu and see what Celebrity Chef Steven Snow has come up with this winter!  The wine list (well book!) is incredible so save some energy and ask for their recommendations.

Sunday morning: Pack up (sigh….) – but before you head home, drop into Mockingbird Cafe at Kingscliff – its the local’s favourite and prides itself on serving the freshest local ingredients.  Ask Jo to take you out the back to show you her fantastic herb garden and the very delicate stingless native bees and their hive!  On your way out, don’t forget to walk down the main street for a touch of window shopping – our favourite is Carla’s On Kliff Boutique on Marine Parade – a local designer with all her designs made locally on the Gold Coast.  Make sure you tell Carla we sent you!

So, does this all sound too good to be true?  Well frankly, we’ve done the research and for groups, you can often enjoy a luxury beachfront resort experience for less than the cost of a 5-star resort (and it is private – children optional!).  So if you are looking for a resort-style luxury beachfront holiday home accommodation for your next family holiday, girls getaway, wedding or just a romantic break, contact us at La Maison Pacifique for availability and a quote….

Oh – and if the ideas above don’t suit, check out what the locals have to say about the best things to do:

We hope to welcome you soon.

Best National Parks in Northern NSW

Best National Parks in Northern NSW

Best National Parks in Northern NSW

Best National Parks in Northern NSW

We’ve done the research and come up with the Best National Parks in Northern NSW. All of us locals know how our region not only offers the most amazing beach life with patrolled beaches (and unpatrolled, but amazingly beautiful white sandy stretches and incredible surf breaks), but easy access to some of the most beautiful National Parks in Northern NSW.

Brian Johnson, in a recent article Beautiful National Parks on New South Wales’ Northern Rivers gave us a guide by voting the Tweed Heads area the Best for Nature.  We however, think that the region has more than just nature and our local National Parks are thriving with natural scenery, splendid walks and boundless opportunities for activities, fun and exploring.

Tweed Heads sits in the compact Tweed area, which has less than 40km of coastline and a little rump of hinterland squeezed up against the Queensland border.

It’s hard to beat the combination of subtropical climate, fantastic beaches, national parks and perhaps the most beautiful scenery anywhere along the NSW coast. From Tweed Heads itself, you can take a cruise on the river, or if you want to go on an adventure, hire a houseboat and set off on your very own Huckleberry Finn exploration.

Coastal towns such as Cabarita Beach and Kingscliff (renowned for its surf breaks) offer an alternative to Tweed Heads, and have increasingly sophisticated shopping, dining and accommodation scenes, without having lost any of their laid-back atmosphere. We’ve asked the locals and here are some great things to do in the area.

But these are just two of the local towns.  In Casuarina, you can pop in to Osteria (walking distance from La Maison Pacifique) and have not only a great coffee, but join them on Wednesday nights for their soup kitchen – a rustic alternative and a great chance to meet the locals.  Alternatively, there is the local’s favourite Thai restaurant – the Spice Den, with its dark, moody interior the perfect spot not only for a great meal but a cocktail or two…

Fingal Head is another popular spot and Cook Island off Fingal Head provides up-close encounters with loggerhead and green turtles, as well as rays, wobbegongs and leopard sharks.

Don’t miss heading inland, however, to enjoy the Tweed’s stunning scenery of farmland and rainforest, backed by the distinctive cones of ancient volcanoes.

The heritage village of Uki has plenty of eco-friendly hideaways and a lovely river walk where you might spot platypus.

Murwillumbah, surrounded by sugarcane, banana plantations and dairy farms, is a good base for an exploration of Nightcap, Mount Jerusalem and Wollumbin national parks, where lyrebirds gather to dance under towering palms.

..and don’t forget the perennial challenging walk – to the top of Mt Warning – a great day out for families and those who enjoy some adventure.

So when you are planning your next holiday, think about the Best National Parks in Northern NSW and the many fun activities that can be undertaken.
